4-H in the Classroom
Over the past few years, the Ohio State University Extension office in Butler County has offered area educators programs that help to develop our county's youth into productive citizens.
All educational services and programs originate from OSU and bring quality educational opportunities to our young people.
We have been happy to have the opportunity to visit many of your classrooms and hope to do the same in the coming year.
CHICK EMBRYOLOGY
K - Older
This program is designed to help your students understand embryo development, comprehend the incubation process, incubate, and hatch eggs. An incubator and fertile eggs will be provided. It takes 21 days for the eggs to hatch.

• Incubator
• Teacher's guide and student materials

FISHY SCIENCE
K - 6th Grades
The Fishy Science Unit uses four lessons to introduce some basic concepts about fish through the use of an aquarium and selected activities and experiments. Participants have the opportunity to explore how fish breathe, the differences between like species of fish, the sensory features and abilities of fish and the special adaptations of fish to the water. Aquariums and learning kits containing many of the supplies necessary to complete the activities from the book can be borrowed from the Extension Office.

ROCKETS AWAY
5th - 8th Grades
Explore the science of rocketry, including Newton's Laws of Motion, using this inexpensive classroom curriculum, which consists of a teacher's guide with over 20 experiments in a unique three-lesson approach. In Lesson One, students explore the laws of motion and gravity. Lesson Two helps students understand the design of rockets by applying the knowledge gained from Lesson One. Lesson Three allows students to apply what they learned from the first two lessons to design and construct their own 2-liter bottle rocket. A 2-liter bottle rocket launcher is available from the Extension Office.

TOBACCO USE AWARENESS
2nd - 6th Grades
This collection of health science lessons allows students to become aware of the potential health risks related to the use of tobacco products. Student activities include analyzing tobacco product advertisements, observing the biological effects from the use of tobacco products, communicating the harmful effects of tobacco use to others, and more! Teaching materials include teacher-ready lesson plans complete with camera-ready student handouts.
Demonstration equipment and related teaching aids are available. This 4-H series was developed with assistance from the Ohio Department of Health.
