The Butler County Farm Day is scheduled for May 2, 2015. This is an opportunity for Butler County residents to see how a farm operates! This event will run from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., and will be held at the Double J Farm, 3070 Wehr Rd., Hamilton, OH.
Double J Farm, a dairy farm, will be hosting this event. Along with the 30 + head dairy herd, there will be chickens, pigs, goats, Lana the Clydesdale horse, wool spinning demonstrations, hay rides, a hydroponic foddering system, a honey bee display with a demonstration hive to view, various youth activities including an opportunity to milk “Bessie” the cow (a cow milking simulator), and various commodity groups and agencies will be on hand talking about the groups they represent.
This event, which was formerly called the Farm City Tour, allows families also to see the different conservation practices that local farmers are incorporating into area farms. Highlighted this year are the use of cover crops, high tunnels, an example of an animal waste holding facility, and pasture management practices.
This event is FREE and open to the public. Families are encouraged to come and take part in this fun educational event! There will be hot dogs, and ice cream available for purchase. Please do not feed animals on the premises and please leave your pets at home as this is a working farm. Also, please note that surfaces underfoot may be rough or muddy in the event of rain.
