Cloverbuds are members of 4-H clubs that are age 5 and in Kindergarten through age 8 and second grade. Cloverbud members do not take projects to the County Fair but have a variety of activities in which they can participate.

Cloverbud Bookworm

Ohio State University Butler County Extension 4-H is offering this FREE series of themed story time and craft sessions to youth ages 3-8. Parents are encouraged to stay and take
part in the fun! Participants should attend all sessions so they can earn an award presented at the Butler County Fair July 23rd. Complimentary ticket into the fair included with award!

Cloverbud Engineering Adventure

Designed just for Cloverbuds, progra gives young children the opportunity to work together to explore challenges and problem-solve using STEM skills. A new theme each year lets teams research a topic, build a model, and create a poster to present at a contest. Meeting dates are May 13, 14, 27 and June 9, 23 with contest on June 25 in Clinton County. Meetings are held at Butler County Extension, 1802 Princeton Road in Hamilton. Limited to 16 participants. Fee is $20.

No-Bake Bake-In Contest

Designed just for Cloverbuds, this friendly "contest" has youth creating a trail mix recipe then preparing it in front of a "judge". This event is held on Tuesday of the Butler County Fair in the Event Center.

Farmer Town USA

Designed for our Cloverbud members, this event teaches about farming and agriculture. The event takes place on Thursday during the Butler County Fair in the Swine Barn. No registration is needed but mark you calendar so you don't miss this fun and educational event.

Cloverbud Veggie/Fruit Car Race

The Cloverbud Veggie/Fruit Car Race is back! The race will take place at the Swine barn at the fairgrounds. Cloverbuds will bring their completed car and spare parts/repair parts to participate in the event. The car will need to run at least 2 heats. Bring chairs and watch the race! This year, the event will take place on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at 12:30 pm.

Awards will be given out after the heat races. The following awards will be presented:

  • People’s Choice

  • Best Name/Theme

  • Most Creative

  • Highest number of veggies and fruits used in construction

  • Most Unique

  • Most Imaginative use of colors

  • Most creative wheels

After the event we would love to have your Cloverbud display their car in the Special Interest Barn for all to see until Saturday, July 27, 2024.

Rules for VeggieFruitcar:
1.Cars are only to be made out of vegetables and fruits, only axels and wheels can be made out of wood if desired.
2.No metal or plastic allowed
3.At least 3 different types of vegetables/fruits must be used in construction.
4.Car should be no more than 10” Wide by 12” Long, no height restrictions.
5.Car needs to have a theme or name, use your imagination and be creative, the possibilities are endless!
